Comments: The Old Silent is one of a series of books with multiple characters who take turns in the spotlight. This book focused on Inspector Jury and Melrose Plant, with others of the familiar cast of characters making appearances. I gave 4's for characters, storyline, and pacing simply because I have read other books in the series that surpassed this one. If I had never read any of the others, this book would have gotten all 5's. I think Martha Grimes has done a phenomenal job with the setting in The Old Silent, eliciting a richness of emotions.
